4 markers separate a useful demo from a sales presentation.

- Operations and IT in the same room: Configuration, exceptions, and integration boundaries discussed together. If technical constraints surface after operational expectations are set, the demo failed.
- Configuration in action: Not slides. Not promises. Actual rule changes, priority shifts, workflow adjustments. If everything requires a consultant, dependency is already baked in.
- Limits made explicit: What the platform does not handle natively. Where trade-offs exist. Where governance is required. Smooth demos that hide constraints create problems later.
How to prepare a WMS demo?
Most effective demos follow a simple rule: 80% standard, 20% contextualization.
Vendors run a largely standard demo based on discovery work. This allows teams to project themselves without turning the demo into a custom development exercise. It’s usually enough to assess usability, logic and overall fit.
The remaining 20% is what matters. Targeted scenarios, specific constraints, comparisons with the current system. These moments require more preparation and should be used selectively.
